+ MUSEOLOGY
FLERINE is a museologist advocating for the ethical conservation and preservation of material culture and intangible heritage. Seeding her pursuits in exhibition design, art & museum law, she's now applying lessons from three decades of international travel and harvesting highlights from her storied PR/communications career to grow her practice in the museum field.
Charged by pandemic shifts and inspired by her family legacy, Flerine is reimagining the way schools and systems engage with historic houses, heritage sites, art galleries, nature and science centers.
According to data from the American Alliance of Museums, the American public considers museums the most trustworthy source of information in the country -- rated higher than local papers, nonprofit researchers, the U.S. government and academic researchers.
97% of Americans believe that museums are educational assets for their communities
89% believe that museums contribute important economic benefits to their community
96% would think positively of their elected officials for taking legislative action to support museums
96% want to maintain or increase federal funding for museums
In its recent report, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates an 11% growth in the museums and historical sites sector from 2019 to 2029, while only 3% of museum professionals in leadership positions currently represent the AAPI community according to the Association of Art Museum Directors (2019).
Pursuing next steps in this reimagination phase, Flerine is studying as a Master of Arts candidate of the Museum Studies program at Johns Hopkins University. This next step in her journey will propel her decolonization goals of revolutionizing the heritage conservancy system through transformational education models. She envisions operating her own legal practice servicing cultural heritage clients and partners someday.
